"You can't go back and change the beginning but you can start where you are and change the ending."
C. S. Lewis
I use a humorous, emphatic approach as I work with individuals, couples, and families. I work from a systems and attachment perspective. This means that in therapy I'm looking at how you interact with the world as well as your internal interactions.
I may ask questions about your family of origin, your current family, work, school, church, all to get a better understanding of how your interactions impact the situation that brought you to therapy. What we learned in the past is important in how we interact in the present, but it doesn't define us.
Ah...if only knowing was enough. While we can learn so much about ourselves, knowing doesn't equal doing. More hard work is ahead. I balance understanding of self and practical skills and exercises to increase living life from the inside out.

Reaching out for help can be difficult. Congratulations on your courage! Here is what you can expect.
Call, text, or email to schedule an initial consultation.
I call you at the time scheduled. I'll ask a couple questions about what brings you to counseling and give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. Our first call usually takes 10-15 minutes. If you are ready, we schedule a time to meet in person.
At the first visit, we'll review the new client forms, policies, and process of counseling. This usually takes about 15 minutes.
The remaining time will be spent with you sharing what's going on and what you hope to achieve in counseling.
In the first couple visits I ask questions and gather background information.
I often assign small tasks or reflections to complete throughout the week.
I choose not to bill insurance companies. I believe it doesn't provide optimal client care. Insurances companies require a DSM-5 diagnosis in order to be reimbursed. Many of my clients see me for reasons other than mental health disorders. This could include, family conflict, life stress and transitions, grief, marriage and pre-material therapy. Additionally, insurance companies require access to your diagnosis, symptoms, and behaviors. They use this information to dictate how many sessions and in some case what type of therapy can be used. I believe these decisions are best made by the client and counselor together, not by the insurance company.
If you would like to bill your insurance company, contact them to find out what your out-of-network benefits are. I am happy to provide you with the documentation needed.
If finances are preventing you from seeking help, I offer a limited number of sessions at a reduced rate. Please contact me to discuss your situation.
